Underrated temple with stunning grounds
Just up the road from the overrated Koma Shrine, is the completely underrated Shoden-in. It maybe that as you have to pay into it, it receives less adoration that Koma Shrine. The temple itself is nothing aesthetically special, but the grounds and various items on the grounds are stunning. The temple is located up a hill which gives a birds eye view of Hidaka below. There are nioman at the temple gate as well as two large nio statues by the temple. Lots of insta-worthy paraphernalia and ornamentation, particularly in the landscaped gardens - part of which are in the free part of the grounds. Entrance costs 300 yen for adults and 150 yen for kids. There is free parking for about 50 cars. The grounds are not stroller or wheelchair friendly with lots of stairs and slopes.
