    Elegant Edo era manor house

The Inoue family moved from Edo to what is now Abiko City to embark on a huge project, land reclamation around Teganuma, the marsh on the south side of the modern city. In 2012, the family moved out and the house became a heritage property of Abiko City. The property's two remaining kura storehouses stand raised foundations which protected them from marsh flooding. The main house dates from the Edo era with Taisho era additions. The interior with high quality carpentry and fusuma can be viewed from the doma earthen floor. The house is not a museum. It's got some wear and tear and gives the impression of how the residents lived in this antique house.
