    Old-fashioned charm

My favorite approach to Kashiya Yokocho is to turn west at Monzen Yokocho and right at the whacky chameleon perched on a five yen coin in front of the unagi shop. Turn north and stroll through this retro shopping street with confectioners and cafes. The cobbled narrow street and the wooden storefronts are a treat to see. Some of the shops have seating out front.

Full of character, charm and... candy!

Penny Candy Alley is a street full of character and charm. Moreover, it is chock full of candy! The area has a fascinating history. But unfortunately some of the older buildings were destroyed in a fire just a few years ago. That is why you can see brand new buildings on the North end of the street. Keep an eye out for the old post box, some unique sweets, statues made of styrofoam art and candy man Suzuki with his candy blowing cart.

Fun for kids and kids at heart

Got a sweet tooth? I highly recommend visiting candy alley if you're in Kawagoe. It's a fun little step back in time, with inexpensive sweets stores lining both sides of the street. Whether you're a kid or a kid at heart I think this is a great place to visit when you're in the area, even if you don't buy anything!
