Stunning ravine with water play
The Sanba Gorge (Sanba Ravine / Sanba Keikoku) is located in rural Tokigawa town. The rocks of the gorge are famed for their unique blue color. It is a popular spot to cool down in summer. The gorge is very busy during the summer months, but if you visit in any other season it is tranquil and relaxing. There is a man-made stairway (pictured) down to the gorge from the car park on the south end. You need to either wade through the river or make a stone bridge to explore the far side of the gorge where there are stone beaches suitable for day camping and barbecue. The car park on the south end is free, but there are only a few spots. There is another car park on the north end where there are several other facilities, some of which are charged. There is also a hot spring at the north side car park.
