A favorite with our out-of-town visitors
One common theme with our overseas guests, both friends and family, has been that they want to see elements of traditional Japan. Sure, the modern stuff is fun and cool, but I think there's a real charm about the places that feel like you can only see them here. Kurazukuri no Machinami in Kawagoe is a perfect example of that, with the traditional warehouse-lined street providing plenty of great photo opportunities and interesting businesses to browse. I will say that if you can manage it, a weekday trip here is far less chaotic than a weekend one.

Wire free beauty
As Tonetoedo said, this street is well worth a visit for the old warehouses aesthetics and what those warehouses store today. Especially if you are a foodie! One of the things that I love about the old warehouse district is that there are no dirty electricity or telephone wires, so you can get some really beautiful unadulterated shots of the old buildings. They moved all the wires underground after I moved here and it really makes a difference. Another cool fact - the lights of the traffic signals can be moved sideways. This is so they can move the festival floats up and down the street for festivals. A few days before the Autumn festival they put up red and white bunting on this street and it becomes even more picture perfect.

Crowded but a must see
Kawagoe City's Kurazukuri no Machinami, the long row of shophouses in the castle town's center is a must-see attraction. There is an amazing variety of antique buildings with shops, places to eat, and heritage spots such as the museum and an art museum. It can get very crowded. You might want to plan your trip when it's a little less busy. According to Google Maps, some quieter times to visit are weekdays before noon. Note that the shops close up around 5 p.m.
