    100 caves of Yoshimi

The 100 caves of Yoshimi are actually 219 burial caves. Just part of it is at one spot, but you can find many around the whole town. Those are actually ancient graves from over a thousand years ago, but later they were also used as an underground munitions factory during WWII. Most of the caves are very smal and they are empty. You can climb up a little and have a look in some of the caves, but for me it was not really that interessting at all. It is also possible to visit one of the huge tunnels, which are leading down through the mountain, but during my visit the tunnels were closed. Only if you are very interested in the ancient history of Japan, this place might be the right spot for you.
