A shrine with an omamori from out of this world

Matsudo Shrine's sanctuary dates from the 1800s and has a history that goes back to the 1600s. The shrine was dedicated to Prince Yamato Takeru who, about 1000 years ago, set up camp here. It's said that the name Matsudo comes from Matsusato, or a meeting place for people. The shrine has many water features and the Sakagawa River runs in front of it. Astronaut Yamazaki Naoko who has ties to the shrine received an omamori which she carried on her missions to space and returned it here. Far out.
