Free jewel hunting
The Jade Coast is a relatively famous area for free jewel hunting along the Sea of Japan Coast. Further up the coast, at Itoigawa Beach (also reviewed below) there is a section for swimming, but like the Jade Coast it is a stone and pebble beach, so you really need beach shoes for visiting this section of the Japan Sea coast. Because there the jade and other stones are in abundance, it is a really popular spot. There is only a small parking lot with parallel parking, so its hard to secure a parking space, but the parking lot at Itoigawa Beach is larger and not that far of a walk.

Nice beach for exploring
The Jade Coast beachfront isn't the kind of beach you'd lay out a towel on -- it's all comprised of pebbles and stones rather than soft sand. However, it's an awesome beach for spending some time rifling through those stones to see if you can find any green-hued jade ones! I don't know if I'd say to make a specific trip here, but if you're in the area anyway it's a bit of fun!
