Well worth a visit
Shorinzan Daruma-ji is well worth a visit if you are going to be in Takasaki. Many people actually go out of there way to visit this temple, coming from miles away just to pay homage at this famous daruma temple, widely recognized as being the birthplace of Daruma Dolls. It is particularly busy on January 6th and 7th annually when they have their Daruma market, which is one of the biggest Daruma markets in all of Japan. There is a giant daruma on the grounds and you can get daruma amulets and prayer votives.

The birthplace of daruma
Shorinzan Daruma-ji Temple is a cool place to check out if you're in the Takasaki area of Gunma Prefecture. The temple is regarded as the birthplace of daruma dolls, and they've got various nods to them including the dolls themselves, daruma ema, and more. I've visited a lot of temples in Japan but this is definitely one of the coolest for its uniqueness. It's about 15 min by cab from Takasaki Station, the closest station however is Gumma-Yawata Station (from there it's 5 min by cab/25 on foot).
