Stunning view of an otherworldly landscape
The Hakone Ropeway carries visitors from Sounzan over the steep drop of the Owakudani Valley, and up to Owakudani Station at 1044 m. It's breathtaking. When I visited, there was a light snow falling and steam rising from the volcanic vents. At the peak, I got a black egg, boiled in the water of the vents. Note that this place is not suitable for people in delicate health. If you're pregnant or have respiratory or heart issues, miss this place due to the vapors from the active volcanism.

Some amazing views over Owakudani
If you're visiting the Hakone area, I'd definitely recommend a trip on the Hakone Ropeway if you'd like to see the region from above. You can get some great views of the Owakudani Valley's otherworldly landscape, plus iconic spots like Lake Ashi and Mount Fuji. Both one-way and round-trip fares are available.
