Mashup of Seville royal palace, fairy tales, and Engrish
When passing through Inzai City's Chiba New Town Chuo Station, I had a look around the station front for somewhere to chill out for a bit. I spotted the sun motif of Alcazar, a two-story shopping complex on the north side of the tracks. Named after the royal palace in Seville, this mall is a peculiar and amusing pit stop on your way to or from Narita Airport. The courtyard is a Disneyfied version of a Spanish palace with a tower, low-slung plastered walls, and old-world motifs. In the courtyard is a theatre space with fairy tale decorations. To keep it all weird, the walls have passages from fairy tales in Engrish. The mall's website indicates that tenants include restaurants and retail shops. There are also community resources here. When you pass through Inzai, give this place some love, as it appears to need it. And enjoy the wild approximations of English on the walls of the outdoor theatre.
