    Japanese Teishoku Restaurant

Yayoi Ken is one of my favorite Japanese Teishoku restaurants. The restaurant offers a sheer variety of set meals. You can go for fish, meat, vegetables, and soup dishes. I often order grilled fish set with rice, soup, and tofu. I also love their mini size pieces of karaage (から揚げ ). They are crispy, with just enough salty taste, and they are even tastier if you add a bit of black pepper powder in them and dip them with mayonnaise. Yum! In terms of the order, you don’t have to worry if you can’t read Japanese on the menu board because there is an English translation for foreigners. On the other hand, the restaurant is usually busy during peak times. The queue was often long every time I ate at the restaurant during noon. So I suggest you visit the place earlier than lunchtime or a little later after the busy hours. But if you happen to go during those periods. Your wait will always be worth it. One last tip is to carry cash with you because the vending machine doesn’t accept credit cards except for a PASMO. Nevertheless, there are a lot of good reasons that you should try dining in Yayoi Ken. Great choices, affordable prices, and most of all, a first-class home cooking restaurant for everybody.

    Authentic Japanese Meal

Yayoi ken is a perfect restaurant to go to all year round. The choices on the menu are great. In my case, I like the pork ginger hotpot set meal in winter. The restaurant is often crowded, so it is best to avoid busy hours. Another tip is to bring cash at least 1000 JPY.

    My First Japanese Food

Yayoi ken was my very first meal in Japan. My Japanese friend took me there on purpose (at this Shibuya branch, actually) because of several reasons: - it was cheap, with teishokus around 1000 yen - plenty of Japanese dishes to choose from, fried food, stir-fry and more - miso soup included - free refill for miso soup and rice Since then, I have always had a fond memories of eating at Yayoi ken, and I would also bring my visiting friends there for an affordable Japanese meal.

My favorite Japanese set meal, Salted Mackerel with grated radish

Yayoi Ken is a chain restaurant around Tokyo that offers authentic Japanese style meals. It usually consists of rice, soup and main dish. Ordering is easy since all you have to do is to choose from the ticket vending machine which has an English language option. I usually have salted mackerel with rice, soup, tofu and miso eggplant. That would cost me about 1,000 yen. If I'm hungry and want to eat more rice, I can just go to a self-serve area for rice, as well as hot tea for free. It can get crowded at lunch time though.
