Fun place for shopping or to grab a bite to eat
If you plan to cycle the Shimanami Kaido I highly recommend using Onomichi U2 as a starting point or ending point for your journey. It's a combined shopping/dining/staying facility, and it's extremely catered towards cyclists -- for instance, one of the cafes has a cycle-through lane so you don't even need to get off your bike if you don't want to.

Really Trendy Cafe/Shop/Hotel
I decided to visit U2 based off a friends recommendation. It is a really trendy cafe, shop, and hotel all in one. It has an outdoorsy theme with some bike related stuff. I didn't stay in the hotel, but I did check out the shops. It is all really cute and everything looked delicious! It is right by the water too, so the view outside was really cool. It is so popular that they were having a wedding party in the restaurant! The outside of the buildings had some good walls to take photos!
