Picturesque train station frequently featured in mooks
The Myokaku train station is frequently featured in Mooks (magazine books) due to the unique appearance of the station. It is particularly pretty in spring when the cherry blossoms are in bloom. The current station is actually not that old. It was built in 1988. But is a rebuild after the original station was burned down in a fire. The original station opened in 1934. The station is made of wood with a tower type central piece in a hexagon shape (background of the featured photo). The station itself has become somewhat of a tourist spot, but it is infrequently used by passengers with only a few hundred passengers boarding at Myokaku daily. The station is on the Hachiko line, a scenic train line that goes between Hachioji in Tokyo and Takasaki in Gunma. It passes through several idyllic towns in Saitama Prefecture.
