English Country Garden and lake resort with museums and activities

Taliesin is a Welsh name and the resort is named after a 19th Century wandering Welsh minstrel who was supposedly a big supporter and fan of Art. The park is located around Shiozawa lake and has a British feel to it. The entrance fee covers little, almost everything in the park costs extra. They do have a small, but decent playground and a roped maze that the kids can use for free. You can roam the grounds including the rose garden with the entrance ticket too. There are three museums in Taliesin that you can pay into; Musée Peynet, Kouko Fukazawa Nonohana Flower Museum and The Literary Museum of Karuizawa. If you pay an extra 100 yen at the gate, entry to Musée is covered. The other two museums cost 700 yen each to enter or you can buy a ticket for 1500 yen that covers entrance to the park and to all three museums. There are a number of different activities you can pay to enjoy in Taliesin. The swan boats are very popular. There is also archery, miniature golf, zorbs on water, paddle boats, stand up paddle boats, tennis and cycle monorail. You can buy feed for the carp and the ducks in the park too. There are some really lovely cafés and restaurants in and around Taliesin, particularly the three outside the gates near the car park. Unfortunately we ate in the park in the Italian restaurant that had none of the character of the other cafés and restaurants nearby and the food wasn't particularly nice either. The park is very beautiful and if you are in the area on a fine day and want a relaxing time in an English country garden type park, it is worth a visit. When the parking is full, the over flow car park is quite a distance away and it is charged. The park is open full time in the summer, but closes some days in the winter. In December and January the park is FREE to enter.
