A fun Godzilla attraction in Shinjuku
I had a family member visiting from overseas, and one of the things she asked to do was visit the Godzilla Head in Shinjuku. It’s not something I’d ever been to see before, and I’m glad that the opportunity came up because it was just fun. Built onto the eight floor terrace of the Shinjuku Toho building, the Godzilla Head is visible from some distance away and certainly oh makes for fun photo opportunities. The surrounding area has fully embraced the monstrous attraction too, with the Godzilla footprints on the ground and the street leading up to it nicknamed - or maybe actually named?! - “Godzilla Road”. We visited on a slightly rainy weekday and it wasn’t especially crowded. Google advised that the Godzilla head's eyes lit up and “smoke” came from its mouth every hour, on the hour, between 12pm and 9pm. We timed our arrival to see it and while it wasn’t that dramatic when we were there - I can imagine a more dramatic show at more popular times being at least a possibility - it was definitely still a bit of fun to see. The Godzilla head is a fun thing to check out if you’re around Shinjuku - and it's Shinjuki, so there's bound to be a reason to head there eventually. It is accessible from JR Shinjuku station’s east entrance, in the Kabukicho district.
