Vestige of a samurai school
Not far from Iwatsuki Station in Saitama City is the only remaining domain school in Saitama dating from the Edo era. The school was established at the end of the 1700s by a Confucian scholar. Children of the samurai class studied and practiced martial arts here. The building was restored in the mid 2000s and is open to the public with free admission. It's austere, simple, and small but has a thatched roof defended by spigots front and back and may be of interest to architecture fans. The best time to go is in early spring when the plums and cherries bloom in the garden.
