Solar telescope and astro observatory
A sad aspect of living in the Tokyo area is light pollution that obscures night skies. It's easy to forget what's up there when you can't see it. The Katsushika City Museum remedies this with two telescopes. A high-performance solar telescope lets visitors observe the surface of the sun projected onto a large screen and a spectroscope display so you can see the sun's roiling activity. Another astronomical telescope is trained on the moon and planets. The eyepiece of this telescope is on the telescope's mount instead of the tube, so you don't have to climb up to observe (great for children and wheelchair users).
