    Coffee, Pancakes, Burgers, and Beer

If you are at Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station, there are tons of little dessert shops and to-go restaurants, most with no seating, from the ticket gates to the attached shopping malls Solaria Stage and Parco. I had seen Rethink Cafe many times and thought about trying it, but this time I saw a line of people outside waiting for it to open. When I was way too hungry later, I tried getting back to the station without being directed to the ticket gates, and got a little lost in the department store next door. Sigh. Found my way there, finally made up my mind, and placed an order.

I got a Standard Burger (550 yen) with the side menu and drink set (+300) with the onion rings and a hot coffee. I was really happy about the pickles on the burger and the availability of yellow mustard, which is hard to find in Japan, but the burger was maybe close to a fast food place. (I haven't eaten a fast food burger in 4-5 years, for reference.) Japanese size burger with a nice bun but lower quality meat. The onion rings weren't too oily and were really nice, though I think the texture was different than what I would see in the states. Coffee was good and strong.

Clientele ranged from college kids to older people, they have free wi-fi (most of Fukuoka City does...), not super crowded as there's a lot of seating, and they played standard jazz. I couldn't get totally relaxed and didn't stay for that long. There's a nice view from the seating in back and I could see ladies in a way fancier restaurant across the street.

One of their free papers I picked up talked about other “Rethink” locations – different types of stores in Fukuoka. They are in partnership with a company that sells e-cigarettes, so I don't think I'll be supporting them again. Too bad, because I wanted to like this place. Food and coffee was not bad, but not awesome for the price, and I sort of felt heavy and got a stomachache later. Maybe the pancakes are better.
