    The best!

We've visited quite a large number of dog grooming salons in our almost 7 years in Japan. Mou Mou is simply the best. Firstly, the owner/proprietor is incredibly responsive. Even when we've called on their scheduled closed days (because we've forgotten they're shut!), she's called us back - super service. She does a brilliant job, too. We've been to other pet grooming salons for our pup when we've lived in other parts of Japan - probably 5 or 6 other places - and we've always found Mou Mou to be number one. They're not our closest dog groomer, but we drive out there each time our pup needs a cut because we've always been so impressed with the service and the quality of her work. Also, the prices are super reasonable. 4000 yen for a pup cut, when we've paid about double that when living in Tokyo is a steal.

Fantastic Dog Groomer in Uonuma City, Niigata

Finding a dog groomer in a major city in Japan is fairly easy. If you can't find a boutique, one of the major home stores like Cainz, Joyful Honda, etc. will usually have pet grooming services available. In a small town, that's not typically the case, so we were a bit nervous about finding a good groomer for our dog. We resorted to searching on the internet, and we came across Trimming Salon Mou Mou. The salon consists of one intrepid groomer who runs the admin as well. You wouldn't think much of Mou Mou if you just judged it by size, since it's really just a little one-room shack. Still, it is a well-appointed shack that shows the attention to detail of its proprietor. The building is clean, the interior is well decorated, and the space is sufficient for the groomer to take care of your pet. Further, she is extremely friendly and very talented. She dedicated two and a half hours to our little pup, and did an excellent job shampooing and trimming our dog. The cost? 4000 yen, which is the best price for professional dog grooming I've encountered in Japan to date. A note on English--the groomer does not speak English, but if you need to communicate with her, just send her a message on Facebook. She can use online translators to correspond with you that way. So if you are in Uonuma or Minamiuonuma and in need of a dog groomer, I highly recommend using Mou Mou.
