Commercial, but Fancy
Located on the east side of Shinjuku, Eagle Suntory Lounge is one of the more fancier-looking bars I have been to. They have a large selection of cocktails and decent English support. Some staff (not all) can speak fluent English and they do have an English menu if you ask for it. I did not use the English menu when I visited, but they have a sort of Cartesian map on the Japanese menu. This map indicates the flavour of the itemized cocktails and lets you know how sweet or dry a drink is and how heavy the punch of the alcohol is. They also have food on the menu but I did not order any. Looking at the other patrons’ food, however, it seems that the food items are of a decent quality, though smaller in portion. It seemed standard for a higher-end establishment. The decorations add to the air of fanciness as well, despite the relatively small size. All seats were taken during my visit and the wait staff had to squeeze between people to get to tables, of which there were only about five. Said tables were less than a meter away from the counter seating too, so you can imagine the tight squeeze of the bar. With the fact of it being a bar in Tokyo with the face of a higher class, it’s no surprise that they would charge a bit more for everything. Food was around 1,200 yen per dish and each cocktail was at least 800 yen, if my memory serves me correctly. Specialized drinks were naturally more expensive at about 1,200 yen a glass. Overall it was a good experience, but it is not one I find myself gravitating towards. If you want to feel a bit more affluent, however, it’s a good place to go to once in a while.
