Seaside michi no eki, small aquarium, market
Tateyama City's seaside michi no eki was well worth a visit when I cycled through the town. Inside the plaza is a small aquarium (free admission) with an open pool, individual tanks with sea life that can be found in Tokyo Bay. From the observation deck, there's a great view of the city, the bay, and the surrounding low hills, one of which is topped with Tateyama Castle. Directly in front of the michi no eki is Sunset Pier, touted as the longest in Japan. Next door to the plaza is the Nagisa Museum with maritime and fishing artifacts. The market has a good variety of reasonably-priced items and above is a restaurant that serves sashimi and donmono topped with fish.
