Wakayama Has a Castle

Maybe you're like me and had never been to Wakayama or known that there is a castle there. In Wakayama City, close to both JR Wakayama Station and Wakayamashi Station, there is a nice castle. It is the same as all the Japanese castles I have seen: on a bit of a hill, white, and with a moat around it. We didn't pay to go inside and I think the entrance closed at 5pm, so when we went it was too late. It is a nice area to walk around, almost like a big free park, if you aren't just interested in seeing inside. The view from the area around the castle is still up high enough to get a good view. There is a ton of castle wall which is impressive considering that it was all built by people a long time ago. We had fun taking pictures with the face cutout characters and the castle was a welcome surprise to our visit. Since Wakayama City is not really a tourist destination but an easy day trip from Osaka City, the castle is recommended if you're avoiding crowds but like castles.
