Bullet holes and Daikokuten statue
Kyoo-ji - 経王寺 - a Nichiren sect temple on Gotenzaka slope is historically significant. It's got the Edo era atmosphere about it. The Daikokuten statue in the small sanctuary to the right of the path is said to have been carved by Nichiren himself. This may be one of those legendary attributions. However, the scars of the Battle of Ueno are real. There are bullet holes from this Boshin War-era conflict. The temple is well maintained and I'd say aim for plum season.

Temple a short walk from Nippori Fabric Town
Kyoo-ji is a temple located around 10 minutes on foot from Tokyo's popular Nippori Fabric Town, and if you're a history buff you might want to pay a visit here if you're in the area. The temple had a role in the Ueno War back in 1868, and there are still bullet holes in the temple's gate from then. It's only about 5 minutes on foot from Nippori Station, making it easy to add to a visit in the area.
