    Municipal facility with period buildings

A Furusato Kan is a type of folk museum - a period building open to the public. This one in Okegawa is the former home of an industrialist. It was restored and preserved as an example of a Meiji period country town house. The Nagayamon, literally ‘long house gate’, (or gate house as we might say) is particularly beautiful. There a few other buildings on the grounds that showcase Japanese architecture from the period. There is also a beautiful garden and a small bamboo wood. In June, you can see 'benibana' safflowers in a field across the road.
