Free fun for history buffs and architecture fans
For history buffs or anyone who likes design, the Former Division Commander's Residence in Joetsu gives a bit of a glimpse into Japan's past. It was built in 1910, and blends Japanese and Western design which I really liked. It's now a designated cultural property, and best part of all it's free admission. Great to add to a Joetsu trip for a cheap day out!
