Period house with stunning gardens
The Toyama Memorial Museum is located in the middle of nowhere surrounded by paddy fields. It is a beautifully kept period house with a kura turned into a museum that houses a permanent collection as well as smaller travelling exhibits. The house and gardens were much larger than I expected. The gardens are meticulously landscaped. You can explore most of the nooks and crannies - only a few areas are off limit, but you can look at those from outside. It is not ideal for children. You take your shoes off as you enter the main house. There is an entry charge at the gate and it costs extra for the museum. There is free parking across the road. For the photogenic value a visit in autumn or when the plum blossoms or cherry blossom are in bloom is advised.
