Universal Studios of Japan
Universal Studios of Japan is one of the most popular amusement parks in Japan. A sharp contrast to Disney´s consistent cuteness, USJ has a collection of characters and themes ranging from Hello Kitty and Sesame Street to Resident Evil and Terminator. It´s located in Osaka city near the harbor. It only takes about 12 minutes from Osaka station to get to Universal City station, taking the Osaka Loop Line. The amusement park has a number of interesting areas. The most popular ones include Harry Potter´s Hogsmeade, Jurassic Park, Waterworld and Amity (from the movie Jaws). Smaller rides include Spiderman, Back to the Future and Minions. For people who enjoy more cuteness in their lives, Wonderland is full of pink, sugary goodness with characters such as Snoopy, Bert and Ernie, and Hello Kitty. In the fall, the park becomes Halloween themed. While in the daytime, pumpkins and “trick or treat” parades are common, after dark (around 18:30), civilization breaks down as Zombies start attacking. It´s a surprisingly well put together event. In Hogsmeade, Death Eaters attack. One-day tickets cost about 7400yen, but if you (like me) plan on coming multiple times a year, it´s only 20.000 yen.
