If you're heading to Beppu and utilizing the train network, you'll be pleased to know that Beppu Station is incredibly clean, easy to navigate, and has a range of shops and restaurants if you need to pass some time - there are a ton of nice omiyage options here if you're picking up gifts, too. If you have any questions about things to do or see in the area, there's an information desk and the staff there spoke perfect English when we visited.
