Lovely View!
It is not easy to find castles with an open view nowadays, but Gifu Castle has a great one. Up top, you get a 360-degree view of Gifu City and even far into some cities in Aichi, and I could spend hours up there. Inside the castle is a small exhibition that displays some armory and weapons, but honestly, other castles have more impressive collections, and I only go up there for the stunning view. 200 yen entrance is not bad at all.

Cute castle on top of a mountain
Gifu Castle is located on top of a mountain. The hike up the mountain is around and hour, but there is also a cable car. I highly recommend the hike, it is not too difficult or too long. Once you actually get to the caste, it is pretty small, but it also cheap to get into. Plus, there is a squirrel village nearby. It's is a great day trip, especially for families.
