    Some good hands on experiences

Let me preface this by saying I'm not someone who reads manga, but I appreciate learning more about elements of Japanese culture. We visited here a couple of years back and I did enjoy the hands-on elements of the museum, including opportunities to attempt manga-styled drawings yourself, and the ability to just grab books off the shelves to peruse. I think it's probably better suited to those who are really passionate about manga though, and would enjoy the contents of the museum more.

    A Mecca for Manga Readers

This museum isn’t for everyone. Unless you’re a fan of manga, there’s not much to offer, but if you enjoy manga/anime, this is a great place to take a break from the temples and shrines of Kyoto. What I like best about this place is that it encourages you to get into Manga you may not have read or even heard about before. With an extensive library (I mean shelves upon shelves) and a massive reading area, you can while away the hours with some of the best manga ever created. They also offer special events and classes (when I went, I received a crash course in manga art!) The museum is open daily (except Wednesdays and New Year's Day) from 10:00-18:00 (last entry at 17:30). Admission is 800 yen for adults, 300 yen for high school/junior high students, and 200 yen for elementary school students. The Manga museum is located one train stop away from Nijo Castle at Karasuma Oike station.
