Kanto's Largest and award winning Roadside station

Kawaba Denen Plaza has won the award for the best roadside station for five years in a row. And after visiting during camping season this year, I wholeheartedly agree that it deserves the accolade hands down. I have been to many roadside stations over the years, but I have never seen any other that are as large and engaging as the one in Kawaba. Not only can you have a rest there, but you can shop, eat, play and craft, even pick fruit in blueberry season. The choice of eateries is fantastic and the large playground at the back of the park is a must visit for those with children. The grass slides are a big hit with kids of all ages, even adults have a go. And it is completely free - even the sleights you need to come down the large grass slide. There are seven car parks for the roadside station, but even still it is not uncommon to have to wait for a free car space on a weekend. A must visit location if you are in Kawaba.

A Great Outdoor Park for Families

Den-en Plaza ("Rural Plaza") in Kawaba village is a kid-friendly, outdoor park in Gunma Prefecture. You can use local trains and buses to get there. Tokyo -> Takasaki city, Gunma Takasaki -> Numata, Gunma You take buses for Kawaba from the train station in Numata and they will drop you off right at Den-en Plaza. These buses run every hour, and have a distinctive green color. They offer a free brochure about the area in English. A beer brewery, bakery, farmers market, ice cream shop, and information office can be found in the park's main area area. Small kids will have lots to do in the park, with a playground, a zip-line, and sleds for sliding down a high, plastic-fiber track. There is also a blueberry picking field for visitors. You can pick blueberries free of charge from late June until mid July. This is when the blueberries ripen. You also can see a historic rail bridge and steam engine in action.
