A Great Outdoor Park for Families
Den-en Plaza ("Rural Plaza") in Kawaba village is a kid-friendly, outdoor park in Gunma Prefecture. You can use local trains and buses to get there.
- Tokyo -> Takasaki city, Gunma
- Takasaki -> Numata, Gunma
You take buses for Kawaba from the train station in Numata and they will drop you off right at Den-en Plaza. These buses run every hour, and have a distinctive green color. They offer a free brochure about the area in English. A beer brewery, bakery, farmers market, ice cream shop, and information office can be found in the park's main area area. Small kids will have lots to do in the park, with a playground, a zip-line, and sleds for sliding down a high, plastic-fiber track.
There is also a blueberry picking field for visitors. You can pick blueberries free of charge from late June until mid July. This is when the blueberries ripen. You also can see a historic rail bridge and steam engine in action.
