Lake Towada

A former hotspot

Lake Towada straddles both Aomori and Akita prefectures, but it is generally identified as being in Aomori. Probably because most of the attractions are on the Aomori side and because the Aomori side is larger. It is a vast lake, beautiful throughout the seasons. I visited recently after many years and was surprised by how few people there were this time. Furthermore, several of the facilities have closed since my last visit and there are a lot of abandoned buildings. However, there are still some services open. Moreover, the lake is as beautiful as ever and there is plenty to see in the area.
