Delicious Japanese Style Sponge Cake

Traditional castella, or Japanese style sponge cake maker. Everything in the store speaks to the history of castella making and how this delicious little treat has become a staple of Japanese festivals or get togethers when you want something besides convenience store snacks. There are several varieties to choose from, and they are all in the neighborhood of ¥1,000. There are even some sake soaked sponge cakes if you really want to kick your sinful snacking up a notch. There are no English translations available, but if you have your smartphone, that should be no problem at all. If you'd like to expand your sweets experience, the store also sells dorayaki, the fluffy little pancakes sandwiching sweet bean jam between them or various other delicacies. It's never so busy I've had to wait more than 3 minutes to order, and the staff are all attentive and helpful. Go try some castella ASAP!
