Sakakura pickles, a local Noda City product
Sakakura Tsukemono pickle shop on Nagareyama Highway is known for its "meibutsu", famous local product. Sakakura offers pickled vegetables, specialty soy sauce and furikake. Cucumber, eggplant, daikon radish, and other pickles are packaged in plastic, but you can also buy in bulk in containers or bags. If you don't know your pickles, there are always samples of their products to get you hooked. Some people swear by pickled shoga, ginger, which is said to ward off colds and chills. The ginger pickles are great served in bento box lunches, or on the side with washoku dinners. HOW TO GET THERE: From Atago Station west exit on the Tobu Urban Park Line, walk west to Atago Shrine. Walk 4 minutes south on Nagareyama Highway. Closed Mondays.
