A great place for a little break from the city

With the opening of the new SPAL II, a new place to relax or take a break also came to Sendai. Sky Garden is a bit difficult to find but well worth it if you're over the hustle and bustle of the city. The stations east exit is where you want to head first. SPAL II is split into 2 halves, one mostly shopping and the other gift items and restaurants. Sky Garden is located above the restaurant side. There are a few signs leading to escalators up to the garden but there is also elevator access. The area is small but quieter than I expected. There is a nice grassy area and some small plants. The area also has 2 small tables for snacking or having lunch if you wish, but the tables are usually taken. Even without the tables, there's plenty of room to sit along the planters. Entering the area is completely free, a big bonus. The garden does close quite early, 5 pm I believe, so beware of the time if you want to check it out!
