Abiko's waterside farmer's market
At Abiko City's castle-like hydro museum, there is a farmer's market with direct sales of local and Chiba regional produce. I picked up a bunch of kinjiso, a relative of the chrysanthemum. You're likely to find some varieties of vegetables that aren't mass-marketed, such as mizuna with purple stalks. The market has baked goods, bento box lunches, and carries beers and spirits made in Chiba Prefecture. You can find the novel Boso Whisky here. The market is open from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The registers accept cashless payments.
