Intriguing bamboo forest, castle site, and community resource
About a 10-minute walk east of Kita-Kashiwa Station on the Joban local line is an intriguing spot. From the station, you can spot the dense forest. The forest, dense with bamboo, is two archaeological spots in one. The most ancient is a kofun, a burial mound where researchers uncovered artifacts dating back to the Jomon era. Later, the spot became Nedo Castle, and you can see the well-preserved baileys. Today, the site is used for Hokusei Terasu. Periodically, the community uses the spaces for nature workshops and performances. The bamboo forest overlooks Teganuma, the wide marshland to the south of Abiko City. You can catch breezes here. There is a small parking lot. I recommend walking in from Kita-Kashiwa Station. Just look for the trees and head east.
