One of the better service areas Tokyo bound
Like Genkidesu, I really liked this Service Area. It has a Smart IC, so you can get to the other Obuse Highway Oasis (separate to the Service Area) and Obuse Park area. The Service Area has a nice shopping area with chestnut souvenirs galore, and all the usual amenities such as toilets, bins and vending machines.

Nice rest area surrounded by nature
The Obuse Highway Oasis in Nagano is a nice place to stop and stretch your legs on a road trip, particularly since it's surrounded by some beautiful nature. There were numerous trees with stunning autumn leaves on my most recent visit, and they had several stalls selling chestnut goodies. There's even a dog run here if you're traveling with a canine companion in tow.
