English speaking dentist in a small-town location
When it comes to finding medical care as an expat, many of us feel more comfortable dealing with situations in our first language - which in my case is English. This never posed a problem in Tokyo, but moving out to Niigata I was a little concerned that whenever I'd have to go to a doctor or dentist that I'd be struggling with the language barrier. Thankfully, Sawata Dentistry put that fear to rest. I was pleasantly surprised to find that in my small town, there was a dentist that spoke great English. The dental hygienists don't, but I think that for a cleaning and general check up it's relatively easy to get by without a great deal of words needing to be spoken. The dentist was quick, professional, and left me feeling like I was in good hands. They are covered by NHI as well so cost-wise are very reasonable. 2000 yen for filling a cavity? Wonderful!
