Edo Period House
It’s surprising to see an old village house among modern residential houses. The museum preserves the main house and some outbuildings of a prominent family that administered the village that once stood on the site of Koshigaya Laketown. The house has some beautiful ranma transoms with a variety of designs. It’s got some hybrid elements - one side is a farm house, the other side offices for village administrators, so there are some grand architectural details such as a ceremonial entrance for the lord of the domain, and transoms and art more typical of samurai homes. The museum attendant gave me a tour with detailed explanations of the history and architectural details. Besides the house, the lakeside park has big spaces to play, so it’s a good mini excursion for families.
