Great value
We visited at night, so it was only 450 yen per person, which is great value. I loved the rotemburo - outdoor spring. There are three different choices of baths (different water temperatures) inside too. It's a very busy spot, but we were lucky to get in just after and before a rush of people. As we were leaving I could see that there were no free showers left and people had to wait to wash before entering the baths. At night, the restaurant isn't open, so its just bathing and relaxation. They do have vending machines with drinks and ice-cream and there is an area where you can help yourself to free hot / cold green tea or water.

Day-use onsen in Itoigawa
Hisui no Yu is a day-use onsen located in the Itoigawa area of Niigata, and it's a great option for a bit of rest and relaxation at a reasonable price. They have indoor and outdoor bathing options, as well as a sauna, plus private family rooms if you'd prefer. The daytime rate for adults is 1000 yen (between 10am and 4pm) and for kids it's 550 yen. There are cheaper rates if you visit in the evening, too.
