Bamboo Handcrafts Shop

Not my first time in this little shop near the shotengai in central Beppu City. The shop owner is friendly and will help you find what you're looking for. There are tons of styles of baskets but also silverware and other products all made from locally sourced bamboo. This time she mentioned that the local bamboo flowered a couple years ago (which means the plants later died) so the supply will run out soon. Also the younger craftspeople in the area charge more for their products, so the prices are likely to go up in the future. We chose a simple round basket for snacks at home as well as a couple decorations and mimikaki. They were carefully wrapped up for us.
