Exquisite Taisho era strolling garden
When you visit Shibamata Taishakuten, the 17th century temple which reveres Indra, don't miss the garden behind it. The garden, Suikeien, was designed by a renowned Taisho era garden expert. The path from the ticket booth around Taishakuten's temple affords excellent up close views of the elaborate wood carvings that decorate its outside walls. Continue along an outdoor corridor to temple lecture and receiving rooms that look onto the garden, ponds, and stone ornaments. A pavilion on the corridor provides complimentary hot and cold tea and a rest spot where you can look out over the garden. It's a soothing and relaxing place at once dense with sights and entracing vistas.
