Street side drinking with Yurakucho office workers

    Price: 200 yen

A Yurakucho highlight this.  Located across the road from the white/beige twin towers of the Yurakucho Denki Building, and just down the street from Yurakucho Station, you'll find a small enclave of alcohol vending machines, furnished with ashtrays, bins, and some steel tables/counters.

Office workers congregate here every night of the week (summer & winter, rain or shine) to shoot the breeze and complain about work.  On warm nights, the numbers are such that people spill out onto the road, and line the sidewalks.  It's a really convivial atmosphere.  There's no dress code or entry requirement - all are welcome.  If you're on your own, hang out long enough and you'll be sure to make some new (drunk) friends.

Better loosen up when you come here though.  The immediate surrounds of the vending machines are filthy; expect cigarette butts every where, the odd smell, plenty of smoke, and the lingering pong of stale beer.

If can past this though, this place is salt-of-the-earth socializing at it's best.  In a word, it's fantastic, and the people watching is epic.

The vending machines serve beers, sake, alco-pops, and soft drinks.  There's a convenience store on the first floor of the Yurakucho Denki Bldg. for your snack (and it may well be cheaper to buy your beers there, too).  The basement of the same building is where you'll find the nearest toilets.

I'm not sure these vending machines are 'listed' as such, so the address used in this review is that of the Yurakucho Denki Bldg (as I said though, the machines are just across the road).

If you're in the area of a Friday night, and at a loose end, I urge you to give this place a look.
