    A special natural national monument

The Mitake no Kagami Iwa is a special natural national monument of Japan. It is located on the grounds of Kanasana Shrine in the beautiful Kamikawa Town in Saitama. Mitake no Kagami Iwa translates to the "mirror rock of Mitake". It is thus named because the polished surface of the rock looks like a mirror. It is a slickenslide, created millions of years ago. The Mitake No Kagami Iwa is quite hard to get a photo of, for the amateur photographer like myself. I'm sure a professional might get a good shot. So I only have a photo of the lead up to its location. It is located in a nice wooded area on the shrine's grounds.
