I needed a haircut, and the last time I got my hair done in Japan it was a bit of a disaster (they gave me an awkward cut and thick bleach blonde highlights that looked like Kelly Clarkson in the early 2000's rather than the "natural" highlights I asked for). Lost in translation really is a thing! When I was trying to find a new hairdresser out here in Niigata,I found that there was a Toni and Guy salon in Niigata City. I didn't get color done, but had a coupon for a discounted cut (3980 yen - check online, it's worth it!). Erari was my stylist and he spoke enough English to get me what I wanted - he was patient and precise with his cutting and it's probably my favorite haircut in Japan to date. If you're in the Niigata area and you're looking for a reputable stylist who speaks enough English to help you out, he's the man. He's been doing hair for 20+ years too so he knows his stuff! Next time I might be game enough to re-try a color experience in Japan! They are located in the LovaLa Bandai Mall, which is a fun place to shop too, with plenty of international name stores.
