Beautiful place for seasonal color
Even though Odawara Castle is a replica, I still think it's very much worth visiting -- especially if you appreciate some seasonal color. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's a very nice spot during sakura season, but in June it's great for hydrangea fans, and much less crowded than the cherry blossom timeframe. 510 yen for admission isn't a bad deal at all, in my opinion!

Reconstructed and restored fortification
The original decaying castle was severely damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923 and reconstructed and restored in the 1960s. The interior today is a museum with displays and artifacts documenting the rule of the Hojo clan and the siege that led to their downfall at the hands of Toyotomi Hideyoshi. The museum may be of interest to history buffs and children learning about this tumultuous era. The interior’s only reproduction is the worship room for Marishiten, the patron god of warriors, at the top of the castle keep. Periodically the Akaganemon, a gate reproducing the carpentry of the era using authentic techniques and materials is probably more interesting and free to enter.

It looks the part, but doesn't really feel it!
Odawara Castle is pleasant to look at, but - in my humble opinion - is missing a certain je ne sais quoi. It maybe because the inside of the castle has been transformed into a museum, without keeping much of the original interior so it doesn't feel like you are in a castle. There are four floors and you can go outside on the top floor. Great views. There is a nominal charge into the museum.

Odawara Castle
Odawara castle is a nice spot for cherry blossom viewing. In the spring they also have cherry blossom festivals on the weekend. Of course it also a good sightseeing sport for those interested in history and Japanese castles. It is situated in the Kanagawa prefecture and is easily accessible by train.
