Highly regarded as one of the best places for Bagna Cauda

A friend recommended this location to me. She has been going to Modesty every couple of months for the last 20 years. I can see why after visiting. The place isn't particularly lavish, and it isn't even that comfortable, but is excellent value for a delicious lunch. The lunch set costs just 1280 yen for a main with a generous side of vegetables, chawanmushi, rice, dessert and tea / coffee. Modesty is popular with small groups of friends (it can't cater to large groups) and couples. And it is highly acclaimed for its Bagna Cauda, which you can also buy to bring home. Reservations are recommended given its popularity. The lunch menu isn't that big, there are just 5 dishes, so do check ahead of time if there is something on the menu that suits you. There is a course menu too, for 3000 yen. No parking, but there is coin parking nearby. Access by a flight of stairs. No smoking inside. Alcohol available. Nearest station Hon-Kawagoe.
